Helping People by Improving Memory in Their Daily Life
What Can Be Done to Improve My Working Memory?
Until recently, many believed that one's ability to remember and use information could not be improved significantly. However, a significant breakthrough occurred in research originating in Sweden. Researchers have demonstrated the ability to significantly improve individuals' working memory through computer-based cognitive training. Through active and engaging mental exercises, the user improves their ability to focus, concentrate, retain information, and complete complex mental tasks.
Initially developed in Europe, this training program came to the United States in 2006 and can be done from one's home through an Internet-connected computer, along with initial training and weekly telephone consultations with a coach. Every trainee has a Cogmed Coach through a Cogmed Qualified Practice who leads their training, analyzes their results, and provides feedback and encouragement through weekly phone calls.
Published, peer-reviewed and controlled clinical studies have demonstrated that, upon completion of Cogmed Working Memory Training, 80% of participants have significantly improved their ability to concentrate and use complex reasoning skills.
