Learning to Remember What You Thought You Knew

What is Working Memory?

Working memory is a function of the brain that helps us temporarily store and manage the information required to carry out complex cognitive tasks such as learning, reasoning, and comprehension.

Working memory keeps information in the mind for a short time, typically for a few seconds, in order to use that information for thinking.

Practical examples of using working memory include:

 *Being able to concentrate, stay focused and memorize

      information for a test tomorrow;

 *Recalling a series of instructions to complete in order;

 *Being able to recollect where you parked your car at the

      shopping mall;

 *Remembering a phone number while you look for a paper and

      pencil to write it down;

 *Retaining and remembering information you just read.
